SPARC (Symposium for Portland Area Research in Complementary and Alternative Medicine) is a research symposium and poster session that highlights current CAM research in Portland. The OCOM poster session will highlight all of the submitted posters for the SPARC Conference which focus on emerging directions in CAM research.

Society for Acupuncture Research Conference March 19-21, 2010 |

By creating dynamic bridges between laboratory experiments, clinical trials and "real world" clinical practice, the primary goal of translational research is to speed the application of basic and clinical research findings to patient care. The conference will explore effective strategies for advancing translational research as it applies to acupuncture and will focus on addressing paradoxes emerging from the research evidence in this field to date.

Research Grand Rounds December 14, 2009 |

Research Grand Rounds is a series of 1-hour seminars that will examine the challenges in the design and implementation of research, especially in the field of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM). In contrast to hospital-based grand rounds, which focus on clincal care, OCOM's Research Grand Rounds will focus on areas of clinical research.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Schnyer received her diploma in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in 1987 and her DAOM from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2008. She has been a pioneer in the filed of acupuncture research evaluating acupuncture in the treatment of depression and women's health as well as developing innovative research methodologies that better reflect clinical practice. Formerly a Research Associate at the Osher Research Center Harvard Medical School, she is currently an Assistant Professor at University of Texas. Dr. Schnyer serves as co-president of the Society for Acupuncture Research and maintains a private practice in Austin, TX.

Keynote Speaker
Mary Jo Kreitzer, PhD, RN, FAAN is the founder and director of the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. This interdisciplinary center coordinates integrative health and medicine programs and initiatives in the Medical School, School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and other units throughout the Academic Health Center. Dr. Kreitzer earned her doctoral degree in health services research and her master's and bachelor's degrees in nursing. She is currently the co-PI on several grants, including a five year NIH (NINR) clinical trial of mindfulness meditation with solid organ transplant patients, and an NIH (NCCAM) trial on mindfulness meditation for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients.
